Of course, there is the world-renowned skiing and snowboarding—with runs that can accommodate any skill level and temperament. Including the expert, hard-core adrenaline junkie.

But if you never got near a pair of alpine or cross country skis—or a snowboard—the area would still be a winter wonderland. There is dog sledding, sleigh rides, snowshoeing (how does a moonlight snowshoe tour sound?), and ice skating. Or bench sitting on Elk Avenue.

Summer brings Colorado’s wildflowers in all their chaotic glory—and the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival. And there’s Taste of Crested Butte food festival.
